What is compounding?

Compounding is the art and science of creating customized medications just for you, based on a prescription from your health care professional. Our expert pharmacists blend specific ingredients into the correct form and dosage to meet your exact prescription, offering a solution that fits your unique needs.

Is compounding right for me?

Compounding might be a great option if:

  • You’re allergic to or react to a standard medication ingredient

  • You need a dosage not available commercially

  • You need a lower or higher dose of a drug

  • You’d prefer an alternative form, like a cream, liquid, injectable, or chewable

Will insurance cover compounded meds?

The best answer is - sometimes. Medicare Part D guidelines do not require Plans to cover compounded medications, and as a result rarely are. Ohio Medicaid will cover compounds that are commonly used for children. Commercial insurance plans vary. If we cannot get your compound to process online through your insurance plan, or if we are not contracted with your particular plan, we can provide you with a universal claim form to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

Are compounded medications safe?

Absolutely. At the Medicine Center Pharmacy quality is our top priority. We follow strict standards set by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, FDA Guidelines, and USP. Additionally, we’re PCAB-Accredited and use third-party testing to check the strength and purity of our process.

Do you carry regular medications too?

Yes—we do! Along with custom compounds, we also stock select commercially manufactured generic medications. Just give us a call to see what’s available.

Why don’t standard pharmacies offer compounding?

Compounding takes specialized labs, training, and equipment—not all pharmacies have these. That’s why services like ours, with dedicated compounding facilities, are essential.

How long does it take?

Typically, compounds are ready in 1-2 business days, though more complex formulas might take a bit longer.

Can I transfer my prescription?

Definitely! We’re happy to transfer your compounded prescription from another pharmacy. Simply call us at 330-339-4466, and we’ll take care of it for you.

Can you compound medications for pets?

Yes—we serve both humans and their furry friends! From flavoring to dosage adjustments, we work with veterinarians to make sure your pet gets exactly what they need.

What kinds of medications can be compounded?

We offer wide-ranging options, including:

  • Hormone therapies

  • Dermatological preparations

  • Pain management solutions

  • Pediatric formulations

  • Thyroid support

  • And much more!

If you have a special need, ask us—we love collaborating with providers to explore what’s possible.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes. Just like standard medications, all compounded medications require a valid prescription from an authorized provider—whether it’s a physician, nurse practitioner, dentist, or veterinarian.

Can you add flavor for kids or pets?

Absolutely! We can flavor medications with kid-friendly tastes like bubblegum or grape, and for pets, options like chicken, beef, or bacon. We’re here to make medication time easier for everyone.

What dosage forms are available?

We can craft your medication in a variety of forms, including:

  • Capsules

  • Creams & gels

  • Lollipops

  • Troches/lozenges

  • Suspensions

  • Suppositories

  • Watery liquids

  • And more!
